Product | Type IV secretion system protein DotA |
1stcategory | I-T4SS |
2ndcategory | DotA Family |
3rdcategory | Conjugation and Effector translocator |
Function | Component of the type IV secretion system Dot/Icm that is required for intracellular growth in human macrophages and amoebae. The DotA polytopic membrane protein is essential for function of the Dot/Icm T4SS conjugation. DotA along with an additional substrate, RalF have been shown to be involved in regulation of phagosome biogenesis and transport in Legionella.traY and dotA genes were required for R64 conjugation and RSF1010 mobilization in L. pneumophila respectively. |

This protein is homologous to TraY of plasmid R64, as well as a protein from Xanthomonas axonopodis. Sequence similarity between R64 TraY and L. pneumophila DotA is localized within the respective transmembrane domains.
