| Function | Component of the type IV secretion system Dot/Icm that is required for intracellular growth in human macrophages and amoebae. DotA polytopic membrane protein is essential for function of the Dot/Icm T4SS conjugation. DotA along with an additional substrate, RalF have been shown to be involved in regulation of phagosome biogenesis and transport in Legionella.

This protein is homologous to TraY of plasmid R64, as well as a protein from Xanthomonas axonopodis. Sequence similarity between R64 TraY and L. pneumophila DotA is localized within the respective transmembrane domains.
