9 genes |
Product | F-type conjugal transfer protein TraD |
1stcategory | F-T4SS |
2ndcategory | TraD-F Family |
3rdcategory | Conjugation |
Function | Component of the conjugative T4SS trb/tra required for the transfer of plasmid F among E. coli cells, from donor cells to recipients. The TraD is the coupling protein that interact with TraM, a component of the relaxosome responsible for processing at the oriT sequences of F-like plasmids. This TraD-TraM interaction thus forms a basis for recognition of F plasmid substrates. |
Miscellaneus | TraD monomers form stable associations with one another in the membranes of bacteria. Associations between monomers require sequences within the first 151 residues of the protein and appear to be stabilized by interactions between C-terminal cytoplasmic domains.Other F-encoded proteins appear to play an important role in the formation of stable, higher-order TraD oligomers.
