Gene ID | BRA0068 |
Position and sequences | 65772...66089(105 aa) |
Gene Name/synonym |
virB2
/virB2s |
Organism | Brucella suis 1330 |
Cluster |
9 genes |
Product | Type IV secretion system protein VirB2 homolog |
1stcategory | P-T4SS |
2ndcategory | VirB2/TrbC Family |
3rdcategory | Effector translocator |
Function | The VirB T4SS could be required for the establishment of the replication niche in the host. VirB2 could be a major component of the extracellular pilus, which probably mediates contact formation with the host cell. |
Miscellaneus | VirB system is specifically induced within macrophages by phagosome acidification. Induced at 37 degrees Celsius in minimal medium, suggesting that nutritional stress is a regulating signal.
B. suis VirB proteins assemble into a T4SS-like complex in the heterologous
host A. tumefaciens. A principal difference between the two organisms is that B. suis does not encode a VirD4 homolog, suggesting that the
coupling of substrate transport may follow a different mechanism
and may be similar to that of the B. pertussis T4SS
