Function | Functions as a Dtr protein required for the conjugal transfer of the plasmid pTiC58. TraA is essential for oriT processing, probably by nicking at the oriT site and unwinding the coiled plasmid prior to conjugative transfer. Together with TraC and TraD forms a putative relaxosome at oriT that represses the traAFBH operon as well as the divergent traCDGyci operon. |
Miscellaneus | It was proposed that an ancestor of the pTiC58 plasmid may have arisen by the fusion of two conjugal plasmids and that one (IncP-type) tra system in this fusion retained the original function while the other (IncN-type) could have evolved to transfer DNA to plant nuclei.
