- |
Organism | Agrobacterium tumefaciens C58 UWash |
Cluster |
24 genes |
Product | Conjugal transfer protein TraF |
1stcategory | P-T4SS |
2ndcategory | Peptidase S26C Family |
3rdcategory | Conjugation |
Function | Component of the conjugal T4SS tra/trb that mediates the conjugal transfer of the plasmid pTiC58 between cells of Agrobacterium. Probably, TraF is required for the processing of the conjugative pilus. |
Miscellaneus | It was proposed that an ancestor of the pTiC58 plasmid may have arisen by the fusion of two conjugal plasmids and that one (IncP-type) tra system in this fusion retained the original function while the other (IncN-type) could have evolved to transfer DNA to plant nuclei.
TraF is member of the TraR regulon and is transcribed as traAFBH operon that is repressed by formation of a putative relaxosome at oriT consisting the TraA, TraC and TraD.
