ORF information
ORF ID TF00338 (frame 1) Gene ID AGR_pTi_240
Position and sequences 180689...181219(176 aa) Gene Name/synonym traF -
Organism Agrobacterium tumefaciens C58 Cereon Cluster 24 genes
Product Conjugal transfer protein TraF
1stcategory P-T4SS 2ndcategory Peptidase S26C Family
3rdcategory Conjugation
Function Component of the conjugal T4SS tra/trb that mediates the conjugal transfer of the plasmid pTiC58 between cells of Agrobacterium. Probably, TraF is required for the processing of the conjugative pilus.
Miscellaneus It was proposed that an ancestor of the pTiC58 plasmid may have arisen by the fusion of two conjugal plasmids and that one (IncP-type) tra system in this fusion retained the original function while the other (IncN-type) could have evolved to transfer DNA to plant nuclei. TraF is member of the TraR regulon and is transcribed as traAFBH operon that is repressed by formation of a putative relaxosome at oriT consisting the TraA, TraC and TraD.
