Miscellaneus The gene virB4b encoded protein is large and similar in size and composition to VirB4-like protein from other bacteria. virB4b is not located near any other Vir genes and is less conserved across Rickettsia genomes than virB4a at the nucleotide and amino acid level. The VirB4b-specific substitutions alter critical residues in the NTP-binding cleft, which is essential for T-DNA export in A. tumefaciens, casting doubt on the ability of VirB4b to function as a T4SS ATPase.
