ORF information
ORF ID TF02008 (frame 1) Gene ID A1I_02300
Position and sequences 428342...428827(161 aa) Gene Name/synonym virB9-2 -
Organism Rickettsia bellii OSU 85-389 Cluster 5 genes
Product Type IV secretion system protein VirB9-2 homolog
1stcategory P-T4SS 2ndcategory VirB9/TrbG Family
3rdcategory Probable effector translocator
Function VirB9 is a component of the core T4SS complex.Functions in DNA uptake and release and/or conjugation cannot be ruled out.
Miscellaneus Rickettsia genomes contain two VirB9 genes (virB9a and virB9b) encoded immediately downstream of the two VirB8 genes. virB9a is more conserved across Rickettsia genomes than virB9b at the nucleotide and amino acid levels. Interestingly, Rickettsia VirB9a proteins contain the conserved Cys residue implicated in disulphide bridge formation with VirB7, despite a lack of conservation of the Cys residue in most others VirB9 proteins.
