ORF information
ORF ID TF01760 (frame 1) Gene ID BAA97947
Position and sequences 1...242(242 aa) Gene Name/synonym traK -
Organism Plasmid F Cluster 4 genes
Product F-type conjugal transfer protein TraK
1stcategory F-T4SS 2ndcategory TraK-F Family
3rdcategory Conjugation
Function Component of the conjugative T4SS trb/tra required for the transfer of plasmid F among E. coli cells, from donor cells to recipients. The TraK is expected to be periplasmic protein and is essential for piliation and transfer, very little is know about its specific roles in pilus synthesis.
Miscellaneus Several additional observations support the hypothesis that TraV, TraK and TraB form a complex in Escherichia coli that spans the cell envelope from the outer membrane (TraV) through the periplasm (TraK) to the inner membrane (TraB).
