| Product | Type IV secretion system protein VirB3 homolog |
| 1stcategory | P-T4SS |
2ndcategory | VirB3/TrbD Family |
| 3rdcategory | Effector translocator |
| Function | Component of a type IV secretion system (T4SS) vir homolog that plays a symbiotic role. T4SS is required for translocation of rhizobial effector proteins, such as Msi059 and Msi061 into the plant cells. Probably VirB3 serves a similar coupling role of VirD4 in delivering the pilin proteins to the T4S apparatus for pilus assembly. |
| Miscellaneus | T4SS VirB/D4 is enconded on symbiotic island. The Mesorhizobium loti strain R7A symbiosis island is a 502-kb chromosomally integrated element which transfers to nonsymbiotic mesorhizobia in the environment, converting them to Lotus symbionts. It integrates into a phenylalanine tRNA gene in a process mediated by a P4-type integrase encoded at the left end of the element.
