2ndcategory | VirD4/TraG Family |
3rdcategory | Effector translocator |
Function | Component of a T4SS VirB/D4 homolog that plays a symbiotic role. T4SS is required for translocation of rhizobial effector proteins, such as Msi059 and Msi061 into the plant cells. VirD4 may function as a type IV coupling factor (T4CP) that could facilite communication between substrate and the transport pore. Probably VirD4 T4CP binds substrate and transfers it to VirB11. |
Miscellaneus | T4SS VirB/D4 is enconded on symbiotic island. The Mesorhizobium loti strain R7A symbiosis island is a 502-kb chromosomally integrated element which transfers to nonsymbiotic mesorhizobia in the environment, converting them to Lotus symbionts. It integrates into a phenylalanine tRNA gene in a process mediated by a P4-type integrase encoded at the left end of the element.
